Cats Against Authoritarianism

au·thor·i·tar·i·an·ism

A system of government in which the ruler has unlimited power
of, relating to, or favoring a concentration of power in a leader or an elite not constitutionally responsible to the people. – Merriam Webster

Yeah, we’re not a fan. Hiss.

Creeping Authoritarianism

🐾 Creeping Authoritarianism Looks Like This:

  • Leaders discrediting the press as “fake news”
  • Gradual weakening of judicial independence
  • Demonizing dissenters and activists
  • Using fear (crime, immigration, threats) to justify control
  • Consolidating power in the executive branch
  • Shifting laws to favor one party or leader indefinitely
  • Surveillance creeping into everyday life
  • Censorship disguised as “protection” or “patriotism”
  • Loyalty tests over competence for public positions
  • Protesters labeled as threats instead of citizens with rights
